Earlier this year Parliament passed legislation that requires commercial building owners to earthquake strengthen buildings currently below 34 percent of the Building Code. 
The Building (Earthquake-prone Buildings) Amendment Act 2016 comes into force in May 2018 and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is currently consulting on proposals for regulations and a methodology that will support the new Act when it takes effect.
Property Council will be making a submission on the regulations which seek to clarify key definitions and concepts.
